Prashanth Ramachandran

Prashanth began his mrdangam training at the age of 12 under the tutelage of Sri Sridhar Chari and over the last ten years has performed under the banner of the Laya Vidhya Centre. During this time, Prashanth has played in numerous concerts across Melbourne, accompanying many students from all the major carnatic schools and at the annual Thygaraja Festival, conducted by the Academy of Indian Music. Prashanth has also been a long time member of the ensemble group Rhythm 6, who have shared the stage with prominent international artists such as: Bombay Jayashri, P. Unikrishnan and Trivandrum R. Venkataraman. Prashanth’s drive to study and learn the complicated art form lead him to India to learn from Sangita Kalanidhi Umayalpuram K. Sivaraman. This gave him more insight into the intricacies and nuances involved with the art.

Prashanth is still steadily learning the mrdangam and hopes that concerts such as the CMC Emerging Artiste Concert will provide him with the ability to further enhance his skills.

Prashanth is currently in University and has many extra-curricular activities including western music, sport and literature.
