Manoj Siva

Son of Shri. A. N. Siva, a great lover of carnatic music and Smt. Akhila Siva, a gold medalist from Carnatic Music College Chennai, Manoj Siva was born in February 1972 with music literally running in his veins. He is the younger brother of Shri. Vijay Siva, a highly acclaimed popular carnatic vocalist.

Mridangam was the field chosen by his committed parents. At age 6, Manoj went to his first mridangam class, learning under the veteran teacher Sangitha Kala Acharya Kumbakonam Shri. Rajappa Iyer and Shri. Srirangarajapuram Jayaraman. In the year 1992, he started to receive advanced training from the maestro Sangitha Kalanidhi Shri. Palghat R. Raghu.

Brilliant fingering technique, developed through his foundation years with Kumbakonam Shri. Rajappa Iyer, a feel for the nuances of mridangam playing and finally a thorough knowledge of the intricacies of the percussion instrument with the expert training of Shri. Palghat Raghu, have been the highlights of Manoj Siva's style of playing. Steeped in tradition, his tonal richness and clarity of strokes have, over the years individualized his playing. Musicians and rasikas see his complete understanding of the kritis as his trump card, given his large exposure to vocal music. It would not be a surprise that he has sung for All India Radio in the Youth category and also benefitted from a brief discipleship under Sangitha Kalanidhi Shri. D. K. Jayaraman.
