Bhairavi Raman is a disciple of Sri Murali Kumar, the renowned violin artist from Melbourne, founder of the Raaga Sudha School of Carnatic Music. Bhairavi started learning carnatic violin from Sri Murali Kumar from the age of 10.
For the past four years, Bhairavi has accompanied senior vocal students from most of the leading Carnatic music schools in Melbourne. She has also provided violin accompaniment in CMC’s junior artists segment in 2006. Bhairavi learns Carnatic vocal music from Sri Gopinath Iyer, and has been learning Western classical violin from the age of six. She is involved in many musical ensembles and choirs in her school. She was recently awarded A. MusA in Violin from the Australian Music Education Board.
She was the recipient of the inaugural ‘Pride of Raaga Sudha’ award at Sri Murali Kumar’s Raaga Sudha School of Carnatic Music in 2004, and received the award again in 2007. In 2006, she received the first prize in the Melbourne Tamil Sangam’s vocal music competition in the under-16 category. She also received the Warragul Jaycees ‘Outstanding Performer of the Year’ award at the 2006 Eisteddford for her Western Classical violin solo performance.
